The Artist

As a child I didn't know that painting was a skill.

I just thought some people were born with the ability to make amazing images and I was just unlucky to not be one of them.

I got started with digital art in Microsoft Paint. I found that I could zoom in on images and manually copy the pixel patterns in a separate window and slowly build up an image. Naturally, I assumed that this was how artists did their work. I didn't know how they managed it without a reference though.

Years later, I got access to Photoshop in college. I was on YouTube looking for tutorials when I stumbled upon a video by Nico di Mattia, painting Spider-Man.

I was transfixed. It was as if I was witnessing a miracle by the hand of God. I immediately began trying to paint in this new and magical way.

It has been many years since then and I've gotten to a point where that younger version of me would be in awe of what I can do now.
